They’re internal barriers built using heat-resistant materials, like fire-rated plasterboard and mineral fibre systems, designed to hold back fire for a set period (commonly 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes). When combined with correctly installed fire dampers, and fire stopping, they form part of a complete fire compartmentation strategy.
